The 1stSF/SS originally started out as two teams: The
1stSF and the 17thSS.
The 1st Special Service Forces (1stSF) was founded
on November 15th 2002 as an ultra-realism clan for Medal of Honor: Allied Assault
named after the famed World War II unit. 1stSF was founded on the principles
of real life war making. Many of its early members were ex-service men and ex/current
law enforcement agents. Each member had a love for world war two and tactical
game play and all came with ideas on how to make it better. 1stSF is one of
the oldest and most popular world war two gaming clans on the net.
The 17 Schultzstaffel (17thSS) was started also in
2002 but the exact date is unknown. The 17thSS was started as a small group
of people dedicated to the tactical cause and brought their own flavor into
it. They were a relatively unknown team until the time they met the 1stSF. During
the year 2003 the teams decided that since they loved playing with each other
so much why not merge. The two groups merged in April of 2003 to form the 1stSF/17thSS.
The clans name was later shortened to 1stSF/SS.
1stSF/SS is neither an Allied or Axis team and prefers
to cater to both. The 1stSF/SS have a strict rank and file system based on that
of the U.S. military and follow the same rules and guidelines of organization
and discipline.
The 1stSF/SS is also the grandfather of the KRM, PRM
and WRM realism mods for MohAA, CoD, Cod:UO and CoD 2.
Today the 1stSF/SS stands at 60+ dedicated family members
and prides itself on its heritage, excellence and prestige. Currently the 1stSF/SS
actively participates in the European Theater
of Operations (ETO). Also, the clan actively participates in other challenged
scrimmages with other tactical realism clans.
The future is undecided on which direction this family
will take but one thing is certain it’s going to get there.
The Real World War II Units:
1st
Special Service Force was a unique joint formation of Canadian and
American troops assigned to perform sabotage operations during World War II.
Simply named "special forces" to conceal its "commando" or "ranger" purpose,
this unit later gained fame as the "Devil's Brigade". It was at Anzio that the
enemy dubbed the 1st Special Service Force as the "Devil's Brigade." The diary
of a dead German soldier contained a passage that said, "The black devils (Die
schwarze Teufeln) are all around us every time we come into the line." The soldier
was referring to them as "black" because the brigade's members smeared their
faces with black boot polish for their covert operations in the dark of the
night.Highly successful in its many missions in the Mediterranean Theater of
Operations (MTO), the 1SSF was disbanded in 1944 (or Jan 6, 1945 according to
the U.S. Army) when it was decided that this special force was no longer required.
The success, esprit and discipline of the 1SSF became the template for building
modern Special Forces world wide.

17
Schultzstaffel was the 17.SS Panzergrenadier-Division "Gotz von Berlichingen"
(GvB). This Waffen SS unit was created in Southern France in October 1943. By
this time in the war high casualty rates had forced the SS to drop their strict
adherence to "racially pure members". This unit was made up of training and
replacement personnel and of "less desirable" Balkan Germans. By mid 1944 the
GvB was in combat in Normandy, grossly undermanned and under equipped. Savaged
by fighting and near constant retreat the division surrendered to U.S. forces
near Achensee on May 7, 1945.
